White House senior adviser David Plouffe said on Monday that he believes the newly minted deal to raise the US debt ceiling will pass both houses of Congress and be signed into law by President Barack Obama.

In an interview with NBC's Today show, Plouffe also appeared to clash with House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner. The television network quoted Boehner as saying it would be nearly impossible to raise taxes during a second round of deficit reductions later this year.

"That's just not true," he told NBC's Today show. "If we're going to do additional deficit-reduction in the fall, it should be tax reform, closing loopholes for the wealthy and big corporations."

But Plouffe predicted the deal would succeed with lawmakers: "We think, at the end of the day, this is an agreement that will pass the Senate and the House and the president will sign it into law."
