An IT manager who worked at Sainsbury's supermarket, was jailed on Friday for stealing more than 17 million loyalty card points.

James Stevenson, 45, who worked at the retailer's London headquarters, used false names to set up at least 18 accounts for the Nectar reward card scheme and credited them with a total of 81,000 pounds worth of points.

Stevenson, from north London, tested out the cards by buying single items with the points and would then go back and fill his trolley once the theft passed unnoticed, the Press Association reported.

In total he used the points to buy 8,120 pounds worth of goods from Sainsbury's.

Stevenson was sentenced at the Old Bailey to 20 months in jail and ordered him to repay the money.
