Cabinet okays health coverage under Ayushman Bharat scheme for senior citizens above 70

The Union Cabinet has approved a significant health coverage expansion for senior citizens aged 70 and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). This move, benefiting 4.5 crore families and 6 crore seniors, provides Rs 5 lakh in free annual health insurance. Eligible seniors will receive a new distinct card for this coverage. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that this initiative fulfills PM Narendra Modi’s commitment to enhance health protection for India’s elderly population.
