Beyond the viral clip, Sanjeev Sanyal has also been in discussion recently for his forthright views on India’s civil services exam culture.

A lighter side of Sanjeev Sanyal, member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC–PM), drew attention online after a video of him dancing energetically to devotional songs dedicated to Lord Ram was circulated on social media.

The clip, shared on X, showed Sanyal moving to bhajans during the Swarajya Conclave 2025, hosted by Sangam Talks in New Delhi. The gathering, which featured packed sessions and prominent speakers, witnessed the senior economist momentarily step away from his usual policy–focused image to reveal a more playful persona.

One X user, who posted the video, wrote: “Imagine being the guy who helps the PM run the economy, cosplays as a 10th–century shipbuilder, rewrites history textbooks, and then break dances on Ram bhajans. Yeah, that’s @sanjeevsanyal.”

The post quickly prompted reactions from viewers. One commenter remarked: “What an event and what energy! He is one of those mortals who has brilliance even in his nails! It was such joy witnessing this in person.”

Another user compared Sanyal’s demeanour to that of someone much younger, saying: “When I see him in videos, I see a 20–something boy enjoying various aspects of his life. Incredible writer – helped me unlearn so many things.” Others wrote: “Wow! Sirji’s got moves,” while another added: “One of the great young minds, we need more like him.”

The organisers themselves also highlighted the moment. Sharing images and updates from the conclave, Sangam Talks posted: “Yesterday’s #SwarajyaConclave was a grand success! Packed hall, stellar panels, and incredible energy. Heartfelt thanks to our guests, speakers & the dedicated team behind it.”

Beyond the viral clip, Sanyal has also been in discussion recently for his forthright views on India’s civil services exam culture. In a podcast with chartered accountant and content creator Kushal Lodha, he delivered a sharp critique of the system, questioning why young people dedicate years to preparing for an examination with what he described as a “99.9% failure rate.” He called the practice “a complete waste of human resource,” suggesting the country should reconsider the disproportionate importance attached to the test.
