For most people, Romania doesn’t equate with “must see destination.” It could be because Romania has been a victim of bad media coverage that has turned people off. Perhaps it’s turbulent history and communalism has left a negative impression in the minds of travellers. Or it could just be that Romania is known to be home to Vampires – and that’s not somewhere you want to travel to for fun... right? However, Romania is a land of great natural beauty and diversity, with marvellous cultural heritage. Apart from the fact that tickets to this stunning country are cheap, it has a lot to offer visitors. 1. Romania is replete with centuries old monasteries, jaw-dropping castles and medieval fortresses, including one of the world famous legend – Count Dracula. These hauntingly beautiful sights, like the Peles Castle, Corvinesti Castle, and Bran castle are must see attractions.
2. The Beautiful Landscape: While the cities have an old world charm with old peeling buildings and various styles of architecture, stepping out of them holds a whole new world. Rolling hills, dense forests and colourful houses dotting the horizon will take your breath away. One must take the train as often as possible to behold the sights Romania has to offer.
3. Friendly people: Adding to the ease of your travel is the fact that you will meet the friendliest people in the world... and everyone speaks at least a little English.4. It’s not crowded!: Most of Eastern Europe is relatively less crowded, as it is set far from the touristy routes. So even during tourist season, you will find Romania to be relaxed, laid-back and welcoming.
5. It’s cheap: Like I mentioned above, travelling to and living in Romania is far cheaper than most European countries. Even the most expensive meal and entry into the most famous castles will barely pinch your pocket.6. Great transport system: Getting around Romania is extremely easy. And not only that, but the rides are wonderful too. The metro system is punctual to the minute and costs barely anything to use.
7. Lots of open space: Most of the cities and towns in Romania are amidst sprawling landscape. It’s a great way to step out of the hustle and bustle to unwind and relax. Taking a walk in one of the numerous parks in the country is therapeutic indeed.
So if you’ve ever thought of putting off your visit to Romania until you’re done with the rest of Europe, re-consider and go now!
