Karnataka? Just an IT Hub? Nah!
There’s a lot that Karnataka has to offer to adventure junkies too, thanks to its hilly terrain and many rivers. In fact, adventure sports is one of the main attractions that draws tourists to Karnataka. Mystery and thrill combine effortlessly to make this state an adventurer’s paradise like you’ve never imagined.
A rage among thrill seekers is River Rafting, and Karnataka leaves one spoilt for choice. Areas like Honnemaradu, Kempole, Gokarna, Sitanadi, Marwanthe and Dandeli are areas at which this sport thrives. River rafting is catching on as fast as these rapids go – with amateurs and pros attending rafting schools by the dozen in order to get trained.

A great spot for river rafting in Karnataka is Bheemeshwari – situated in the middle of a forest, at a hill station. Rafting along the Cauvery River amidst clouds makes it an exciting ride. Plus, it’s a great spot to go trekking as well.
Another scenic place is Kondaji, close to Davangere. This area is lined with trees on both sides where you can get a glimpse of small birds and animals as well. But a more challenging destination for rafting is Honnemardu – thanks to the many little islands that one has to avoid along the course of the river.
If river rafting appears too tame for an adrenaline junkie like you, how about going skydiving? This expensive activity can cost anywhere between Rs. 20000/- and above depending on when you decide to take the plunge, if you want a video or not, etc. You can take the dare-devil jump at Mysore.

Karanataka also offers tourists rock climbing in areas like Ramanagara, near Bangalore or Cave exploration in Kolar. The main cave exploration spots are Antaragange and Ulavi (Karwar). You will be accompanied with a guide while you explore these magnificent rocks up close and personal.
We don’t have a lot of scope here in India to drive through deserts and forests. So if you’re bored of driving on the road (and the footpaths), test your skills in off-road driving at various places all over Karnataka – such as Yeshwantpur, Kodacchadri near Kollur or Chikmaglur, which has a great off-road track. Remember that you need an SUV (available on hire) and it’s a good idea to go in groups.

Being along the coast, Karnataka has a lot to offer beach enthusiasts. Parasailing is available at St Mary’s Island, Malpe and Gokarna and costs around Rs. 1000 or more, depending on the season. Enjoy the scenic coastline from the air as you are pulled by a jeep or a boat. You can also choose to jet-ski with a driver behind you in Murudeshwara and Malpe. Even a short trip will have your spirits soaring as you tackle the waves and feel the spray of air on your skin.
Netrani Island and Mrudeshwara offer travellers the opportunity to scuba dive and admire the underwater world. You can simply take a quick dive or attend a couple of days of training if you wish.
From thousands of feet in the air to below sea level, Karnataka has a ton to offer, but for now, these should be a good enough start to rekindle your adventurous spirit.
