A Thai woman narrowly survived a dangerous encounter with a 16-foot python that attacked her while she was washing dishes in her home near Bangkok. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, saw 64-year-old Arom Arunroj grapple with the large snake for two hours before being rescued.
According to local reports, the python struck suddenly, biting her thigh and wrapping itself around her waist. "I was about to scoop some water, and when I sat down, it bit me immediately," Arunroj told Thairath newspaper. Despite attempting to grab the snake by its head, the reptile only tightened its grip, making it impossible for her to stand. Arunroj was forced to prop herself up against the kitchen door as the snake continued to squeeze her.
Her cries for help went unheard for 90 minutes until a neighbour alerted authorities. Emergency responders arrived to find Arunroj still trapped by the python, struggling to breathe. First responders had to strike the snake on the head with a crowbar to release its grip. Footage of the scene shows Arunroj pale and exhausted after the ordeal, but she escaped with only minor bite injuries.

While pythons are non-venomous, they kill by constricting their prey. In Thailand, snake sightings are common, but attacks on humans remain rare. Larger pythons typically feed on mammals such as rats or, in some cases, larger animals like pigs and deer. The snake in question managed to flee the scene before animal control could capture it.
Meanwhile, Arunroj is expected to recover fully, though the incident highlights the risks of living in areas where wildlife encounters with humans can occur. Authorities are continuing efforts to track the python.
