A video doing the rounds of the internet featured a man claiming that he was denied entry into Virat Kohli’s famous restaurant One8 Commune. The man from Tamil Nadu was dressed in a white shirt and a matching veshti (a white unstitched cloth wrapped around the lower body in Tamil Nadu) and was standing outside the eatery’s branch in Mumbai while recording the video.
In the now-viral video shared by a user named Sandy on X, the man claimed that he was refused entry into the upmarket restaurant due to his attire. He said that after checking into JW Marriott Hotel in Mumbai, he rushed to One8 Commune in Juhu as he was starving. The man also mentioned that he was a big fan of Kohli.
He claimed that he was denied entry by the managementas they stated that his outfit was not in accordance with the restaurant’s dress code. “In spite of wearing a high-grade attire from Ramraj Cotton, I was denied entry,” he said, adding, “With great disappointment, I am heading back to my hotel. I doubt he will take action on this. Hope such incident doesn’t happen again.”
The man also claimed that the management insulted Tamil culture as well. "I am not just disappointed but hurt," he said.

Since being shared online, the video has amassed over a million views and also sparked a debate among social media users.
“It’s nothing against your culture. They have denied me entry in shorts and slippers because it’s their dress code which has to be followed to enter. Whether to have a code or not can be a topic of debate, but don’t make it a topic of ‘being against culture’” a user wrote.
Another user commented, “If it’s true, then it’s very unfortunate @imVkohli.Know your people know your fans and know your customers. Also its shocking to know that still we are following some baseless rules like this.”
“Virat is not responsible for what happened, the staff present there at that time is responsible. This problem could have been solved by informing the manager there but then how do you get reach on social media,” a third user remarked.
A fourth user added, “What a shame.”
“Why should restaurants have the dress code? In the hospitality industry, the customer is king, and the guest is always right. As long as it is not obscene, it should be allowed. Dress code is an elite concept that should be discouraged,” another person added.
