Food delivery giant Swiggy has released its 2024 year-end data, showcasing consumer trends and record-breaking milestones in India’s culinary landscape. From extravagant spending on pasta to staggering biryani orders, the report offers a glimpse into the country’s diverse food preferences and unique habits.
A Bengaluru resident set a new benchmark by spending an astounding Rs 49,900 solely on pasta throughout the year. Meanwhile, biryani continued to reign supreme, with a jaw-dropping 83 million orders, translating to nearly 158 orders per minute—more than two biryanis every second.
Coming in second, dosa amassed 23 million orders, cementing its status as a staple for breakfast and snacks.
Desserts also made a mark, with Rasmalai and Sitaphal ice cream standing out as the fastest-delivered items, averaging under 10 minutes for delivery.
Dinner emerged as the most popular mealtime, with 215 million orders, 29% more than lunch, solidifying its place as the nation’s preferred meal of the day.
Across cities, distinct regional tastes were evident:
Delhi favoured Chole Bhature.
Chandigarh chose Aloo Parantha.
Kolkata stuck to its beloved Kachoris.
Meanwhile, Swiggy’s delivery speed impressed, with a Bikaner customer receiving ice cream in just 3 minutes via the Swiggy Bolt service.
Among snacks, the Chicken Roll led the charts with 2.48 million orders, while the Chicken Burger became a late-night favourite, especially between midnight and 2 AM, garnering 1.84 million orders.
In an extraordinary instance, a Delhi customer placed a single order for 250 Onion Pizzas.
Swiggy’s delivery partners collectively travelled 1.96 billion kilometres in 2024—the equivalent of over 533,000 trips from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Among top performers, Mumbai’s Kapil Kumar Pandey completed 10,703 deliveries, while Coimbatore’s Kaleeswari M accomplished 6,658 deliveries, earning accolades for their dedication.
Swiggy Dineout emerged as a popular choice, serving 22 million diners who collectively saved Rs 533 crore. Bengaluru diners alone saved Rs 101 crore, while the average diner saved Rs 708, a jump from the previous year’s Rs 672.
The highest single bill recorded was an eye-popping Rs 3 lakh from a Mumbai diner, while a Delhi consumer set a record for savings, cutting costs by Rs 1.22 lakh in one order.
Bengaluru led alcohol deliveries with 289,000 orders, far surpassing Delhi’s 96,000. Romantic dining also saw a rise, with 2.35 million reservations for "just the two of us," led by Bengaluru (486,000) and Jaipur (64,000).
Swiggy’s Great Indian Restaurant Festival proved immensely popular, with diners saving Rs 228 crore over two seasons, solidifying its status as a nationwide hit.
