PM Modi, Anthony Albanese gifted collage photos made with Indian, Australian cricketers

PM Modi and Anthony Albanese were felicitated by the BCCI ahead of the toss.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese were gifted collage photographs of themselves made with images of Indian and Australian cricketers of the last 75 years ahead of the fourth Test match between the two countries.

The fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy coincides with India and Australia’s 75-year cricket ties and the portraits were and acknowledgment of that.

PM Modi and Albanese were felicitated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad ahead of the toss. A specially minted coin to mark 75 years of cricketing friendship between the two countries was used for the toss.

BCCI President Roger Binny presented Albanese with his photograph made of cricketers of the Australian team in the last 75 years. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah presented PM Modi with his, consisting of Indian players.


The two PMs joined the teams on field as the national anthems were being played.

The Prime Ministers later took a viral selfie and watched the match for some time. They also waved at the crowds from a golf cart that was modified to look like a chariot.

Albanese tweeted, "Celebrating 75 years of friendship through cricket with Prime Minister @narendramodi." PM Modi responded: "Cricket, a common passion in India and Australia! Glad to be in Ahmedabad with my good friend, PM @AlboMP to witness parts of the India-Australia Test Match."

Later he also tweeted a video and shared several more updates.


"As two cricket-loving nations, Australia and India share a fierce but friendly rivalry. At the heart of this contest is genuine respect, reflecting the affection and friendship between our peoples," Albanese wrote in another tweet.

The two countries went up against each other for the first time when India toured Australia from October 1947 to February 1948.
