Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has broken the internet with a single hashtag. On Friday, Meloni shared a selfie with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, taken at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai, and added the hashtag #Melodi.
#Melodi, a play on their surnames, has since been trending big time on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The hashtag has been used in over 60,000 posts on X. Along with that, the Italian PM’s selfie has also collected a whopping 13 million views on the platform.
“Good friends at COP28. #Melodi,” Giorgia Meloni, 46, captioned the picture.

PM Modi responded to the post.
Meeting friends is always a delight. https://t.co/4PWqZZaDKC— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) December 2, 2023
He also shared a photograph with Meloni – as with several other world leaders, including King Charles – and added a couple of lines in Italian. “I trust in the joint efforts of India and Italy for a prosperous and sustainable future,” he wrote.
PM Narendra Modi had a hectic schedule as he addressed four sessions at the UN's climate change conference on December 1, besides meeting various world leaders and also holding some bilateral meetings.
The Prime Minister met his British counterpart Rishi Sunak, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
He also spoke to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the COP28 summit. Highlighting that India is among the only few countries in the world on track to fulfil its climate pledges, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday proposed to host the UN climate conference in 2028, and also launched a 'Green Credit Initiative' focused on creating carbon sinks through people's participation.
