Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra (50) has confirmed her marriage to BJD leader Pinaki Misra in Germany on May 3. Taking to X, she shared a picture of cutting their wedding cake with Misra on X and thanked everyone for their support.

Earlier on Thursday, a picture of the couple in wedding finery had gone viral on X, prompting speculation about their marriage. The photo, sourced by The Telegraph, showed Moitra wearing gold jewellery and smiling as she held hands with Misra.

Here are five things to know about the TMC MP:

1.) Born on October 12, 1974, in Assam, Moitra began her career as an investment banker before joining politics. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Mathematics, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, USA.

2.) In 2010, she joined Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress and secured her first electoral victory in 2019 from the Karimpur assembly constituency in West Bengal.

3.) But, the Trinamool Congress leader was expelled from the Lok Sabha following an Ethics Committee report into the "cash for query" charges against her in 2023. Mahua Moitra was accused of taking bribes, including Rs 2 crore in cash and "luxury gift items", from businessman Darshan Hiranandani, in exchange for asking questions critical of the government in Parliament.

4.) In November 2023, while Parliament was moving towards expelling her, Mahua had told The Guardian, “I have terrible taste in men.”

5.) Moitra was earlier married to Danish financier Lars Brorson. She was also reportedly in a relationship with advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai for nearly three years, whom she later described as a “jilted ex”.

Here are five things to know about Pinaki Misra:

1.) Pinaki Misra is a senior advocate in the Supreme Court of India and a veteran politician from Odisha. He has combined his legal expertise with a long parliamentary presence.

2.) Born on October 23, 1959, in Odisha’s Puri, Misra holds a BA (Hons) degree in History from St Stephen’s College in Delhi. He also holds an LLB degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.

3.) He began his political career with the Indian National Congress, winning the Puri Lok Sabha seat in 1996. He later joined Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

4.) He has been re-elected multiple times—in 2009 (2nd term), 2014 (3rd term), and 2019 (4th term). During his tenure, he has served as a member of several key parliamentary panels, including the Standing Committee on Finance, Business Advisory Committee, Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Defence, Standing Committee on Civil Aviation, and the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Law and Justice.

5.) Misra has a son and a daughter from his previous marriage.
