Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra is learnt to have quietly tied the knot with BJD leader Pinaki Misra in Germany on May 3, according to Telegraph.

Photos sourced by Telegraph showed Moitra wearing gold jewellery and smiling as she holds hands with Misra.  Moitra was earlier married to Danish financier Lars Brorson.

She was also reportedly in a relationship with advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai for nearly three years, whom she later described as a “jilted ex”.

Neither Moitra, Misra, nor their parties have confirmed the marriage.

Who is  Moitra?

Born on October 12, 1974, in Assam, Moitra began her career as an investment banker before joining politics. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Mathematics, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, USA.

In 2010, she joined Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress and secured her first electoral victory in 2019 from the Karimpur assembly constituency in West Bengal.

However, the Trinamool Congress leader was expelled from the Lok Sabha following an Ethics Committee report into the "cash for query" charges against her in 2023. Moitra was accused of taking bribes, including Rs 2 crore in cash and "luxury gift items", from businessman Darshan Hiranandani, in exchange for asking questions critical of the government in Parliament.

Who is  Pinaki Misra?

Born on October 23, 1959, in Odisha’s Puri, Misra holds a BA (Hons) degree in History from St Stephen’s College and an LLB from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.

As a Congress leader, Misra secured his first victory from the Puri Lok Sabha constituency in 1996. He later joined Naveen Patnaik’s BJD and has been re-elected multiple times—in 2009 (2nd term), 2014 (3rd term), and 2019 (4th term).

During his tenure, he has served as a member of several key parliamentary panels, including the Standing Committee on Finance, Business Advisory Committee, Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Defence, Standing Committee on Civil Aviation, and the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Law & Justice.
