As flight cancellations continue on day 6 of IndiGo's pilot crisis, videos continue to do the rounds on social media showing distraught passengers stuck at airports. Among them, one video that has gone viral shows a groom laughing while showing off his wedding invite to other flyers and explaining how the chaos is making him miss the ceremony.
"I am missing my own wedding," the man says in response to other passengers complaining about the inconvenience the IndiGo crisis has caused. The man's reaction gathered sympathy from bystanders and praise from social media users.
"This guy is so calm and collected. His future wife is very lucky," said an Instagram user. "Thank you for your patience, at least you're not shouting at the staff, understanding the situation. A girl who's going to marry you is really lucky, Congratulations to both of you. And, hope this situation will also get settled very soo," added another.
DGCA points out significant lapses in planning, oversight behind IndiGo crisis'The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) also highlighted that the large-scale operational collapse points to “significant lapses in planning, oversight and resource management” and may amount to prima facie non-compliance with Rule 42A of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, and Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), Section 7, Series J, Part III (Rev.2), which regulate duty periods, flight duty times, and mandatory rest periods for crew.
The DGCA noted “massive disruptions” in IndiGo’s schedule, causing “severe inconvenience, hardship and distress” to travellers. The notice emphasised that, “…as the CEO, you are responsible for ensuring effective management of the airline, but you have failed in your duty to ensure timely arrangements forthe conduct of reliable operations and the availability of requisite facilities to passengers.”
Clear all refunds by Sunday 8pm, Centre tells IndiGoThe civil aviation ministry on Saturday directed IndiGo to clear all pending passenger refunds immediately. In a statement, the ministry said it has mandated that the refund process for all cancelled or disrupted flights must be fully completed by 8 pm on Sunday, December 7.
“Airlines have also been instructed not to levy any rescheduling charges for passengers whose travel plans were affected by cancellations. The Ministry has clarified that any delay or non-compliance in refund processing will invite immediate regulatory action,” the statement read.
