Heavy rain sparks debate as videos compare waterlogged Gurgaon to smooth-flowing Noida: 'Habibi, come to...'

The flooding extended into several of Gurgaon's prominent residential areas, worsening traffic congestion and prompting widespread criticism of the city’s infrastructure. At the same time, comparisons began to emerge online between Gurgaon and Noida, where conditions were perceived as more manageable despite the day’s intermittent showers.

Heavy rainfall on Monday disrupted daily life across Delhi NCR, with Gurgaon facing the most severe consequences of waterlogging and traffic disruption. Residents reported hours-long standstills on arterial routes, and video clips of a long backlog on the Delhi–Jaipur Expressway circulated widely online. Some commuters stated they remained stuck in traffic for more than six hours during the evening rush.

One video uploaded by a Noida-based content creator showed regular traffic flow despite the rainfall. The clip, shared on Instagram, carried the caption: “Rainy bliss in Noida, traffic stress in Gurgaon – the choice is clear.” The creator concluded with the remark: “That’s why I am saying… Habibi come to Noida.”

This instance added to a pattern of Gurgaon and Noida being weighed against each other on social platforms, with many users placing Noida in a more favourable light.

Only three days earlier, another Instagram Reel highlighted the contrast by placing side-by-side visuals of smooth traffic on Noida’s wider roads against images from Gurgaon, where buses were forced to wade through streets covered with several inches of rainwater. The video was titled: “Noida vs Gurgaon.”

Similar exchanges appeared on X (formerly Twitter), following heavy rain in the region. One commuter posted: “Must have driven over 120 kms today, through rains and traffic jams! Hate to admit but Noida roads are way more organised than Gurgaon, and it’s way more cleaner... Only fewer places had water logging!”

Another commentator drew attention to the difference in planning between the two cities, stating: “Noida was built as planned city by government agencies. Gurgaon is the afterthought of an ambitious private builder.”

Others echoed the point that one factor has consistently stood out: “In the Noida vs Gurgaon debate, the only clear win for Noida has always been infrastructure.”
