As many as 24,337 new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in India, with the total COVID-19 cases now above 1 crore, as per health ministry’s December 21 update.
India reported 333 new deaths (below the 500 mark for the 16th day) and 25,709 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the latest release shows. Active cases continue to drop, to 3,03,639 with a fall of 1,705 cases in a day.
Kerala reported the most (5,711) new cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Maharashtra (3,811), West Bengal (1,978), Uttar Pradesh (1,230) and Karnataka (1,194). These five states account for more than half (57 percent) of all the new cases reported in India.

Maharashtra reported the most (98) deaths, followed by West Bengal (40), Kerala (30), Delhi (26) and Uttar Pradesh (19). These five states account for 64 percent of all the new deaths reported across the country.
About eight states and union territories like Andaman and Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli/Daman and Diu, Jharkhand, Ladakh, Mizoram and Nagaland did not report any deaths today.
India’s recovery rate is now up at 95.5 percent. Dadra Nagar Haveli/Daman & Diu record the highest (99.7 percent) recovery rate, while Himachal Pradesh reports the lowest (88.4 percent). In terms of cases, Kerala recorded 4,471 new recoveries, the most, followed by West Bengal (2,627), Maharashtra (2,064) and Uttar Pradesh (1,559) and Chhattisgarh (1,426).

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India is now at 1,00,55,560 with 96,06,111 recoveries and 1,45,810 deaths as per December 21, update. The mortality rate in the country stands at 1.5 percent with Punjab reporting the highest (3.2 percent). Less than 10 lakh daily tests were reported on December 20 with more than 16.20 crore tests carried out till date.
