Many countries around the world bid goodbye to 2023 and ushered in 2024, signalling the start of 12 new months of hope, positivity and success.

Google also marked the occasion with a new animated doodle, urging others to "take a leap", signifying the start of a leap year.

"3..2..1..It’s time to take a ‘leap’ into the next year. Happy New Year from us to you," Google captioned the X (formerly Twitter) post on Monday.

The leap year will be marked by the addition of an extra day to the calendar (February 29), thereby increasing the number of days from 365 to 366 for this calendar year.

Different parts of the India celebrated the start of the new year in their own inimitable style, hoping for the start of a prosperous 12 months for all.

Sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik made a 25 ft high sand sculpture of Lord Jagannath at the Blue Flag beach in Puri.

Google posted a doodle on New Year's Eve on Sunday, that featured a lot of confetti.
