Non-working women are in demand when it comes to marriage proposals, while grooms who are engineers by profession get maximum number of marriage 'initiates', according to a study by a prominent matrimonial portal.
The demand for non-working brides has gone up by 15% over the last one year, a release issued by the matrimonial site said.Rohit Manghnani, Business Head, Jeevansathi.com said changing demographics of white collared professionals in the country is reflected in the site behaviour. "Grooms these days are looking towards a more settled and peaceful family oriented life which is why their preferences lie towards non working women and teachers," Manghnani said.According to him, a large number of men from small towns in India have taken up software development and have moved beyond their home towns. For these first generation migrants in large towns, the classical family network for arranged marriages is not there and therefore a disproportionately large number are on matrimony sites.Also, it is interesting to note that software professional women are in demand mostly from men who are from the same profession, the release said."Teachers also seem to be in demand when it comes to arranged marriages because of their short work timings thus enabling a perfect work life balance. Thus, contrary to our belief that the new age men look for working women, most men opting for arranged marriages prefer women who can take care of their family and home efficiently," it further said.On the other hand, when it comes to professional preferences of grooms, engineers are clearly the first preference of most women.Almost 35% of overall marriage initiates are towards engineers (software professionals and non-IT engineers).Businessmen and banking professionals are also in demand when it comes to the matrimony market, it added.
