Fighter box office collection Day 9: Flying low, even at Rs 150 crore in India and Rs 250 crore worldwide

Fighter has crossed Rs 150 crore in India, and now aims to make the most of the open week ahead. Having said, it was made on a mega budget and has likely missed industry expectations of becoming a Rs 300 crore film.

Director Siddharth Anand's Fighter has crossed the Rs 150 crore mark at the Indian box office. The film, starring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, released just ahead of the Republic Day long weekend (on January 25) and stole a march - with Rs 118.53 crore coming in in its first four days in Indian theatres. Monday collections saw a massive drop, with Rs 7.50 crore coming in. Post that, however, the collections were relatively stable right till Thursday. Yes, there were drops even now but then these were as per usual with no more surprises.

The film has stayed stable from Thursday to Friday, with Rs 5.50 crore more coming in and that's good because any further decline would have dented any expectations of it making inroads into the rest of the weekend.

Of course, given the kind of budget that the film was made on, the filmmakers would have been hoping for Fighter to have stayed in the double-digit zone from Monday onwards, and then aim to shoot further up on Saturday and Sunday to cross the Rs 15 crore and Rs 20 crore marks, respectively. Now that that hasn't happen, the next best thing for the Hrithik Roshan-led action drama would be to stay on the right side of the Rs 7.50 crore mark on Saturday and then hope for momentum to build up going into Sunday, to take it past the Rs 10 crore mark. Of course, this is difficult to achieve, especially that Sunday jump.

Currently, the film stands at Rs 155 crore in India (globally, it has crossed Rs 252 crore), and industry watchers hope the film will breach Rs 170 crore before the weekdays roll around. Not that it would make much of a difference to the eventual verdict of the film since theatrically it has underperformed. After all, a big film like this was touted to be a 300 Crore Club entrant. However, with only class audiences patronizing the film, currently even 200 Crore Club entry is a challenge, which is disheartening.

The only next big milestone that the Siddharth Anand directed film can now be aiming for is to go past the lifetime score of Bang Bang, which had the same actor-director combo. The 2014 release had netted Rs 181 crore, and though after accounting for inflation and ticket prices the film's score will look much bigger, for now at least on an absolute scale perspective, this is the target for Fighter. Given the fact that it's an open week ahead for the film, it should eventually manage to scrape past that sum and then aim for that lifetime of over Rs 190 crore.

Meanwhile, HanuMan [Hindi] has crossed the Rs 46 crore mark after its three-week stay in theatres. It could eventually have a lifetime of over Rs 50 crore before gearing up for its digital premiere.
