'Dear husband, I divorce you': Dubai princess breaks off marriage via Instagram post

A Dubai princess recently broke off her marriage publicly on Instagram setting off a frenzy on the social media platform. In a post, Shaikha Mahra Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the daughter of Dubai's ruler, declared “divorce” from her husband Sheikh Mana Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum.

The announcement comes about 10 months after they got married after the couple got married and two months after they welcomed their first child, a daughter.

“Dear Husband,” the princess, an advocate for women's empowerment in the UAE, wrote. “As you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you. Take care. Your ex-wife.”

The Dubai princess's announcement was welcomed by hundreds on social media.

"When a strong woman knows her worth. Mashallah," commented Instagram user Azadeh Noori(@azadehharris), while another user KM (@martahamedofficial) said, "I find it empowering when a woman recognizes her worth and confidently stands her ground."

Several users also supported the princess's decision.

"Stay strong, princess. Your dad raised you well and you’re a daughter of a king. Keep your head high always and no matter how tough things go, you’ll be loved by your people," wrote Khamis Almakrani (@khamismubarak90).

"Much love to you for being brave enough to confront. May God heal your heart and give you and your daughter continued health, happiness and blessings. And, thank you for your transparency by sharing your thought. I hope the best wishes and prayers from others, will help you through this chapter of your life to the next chapter, where God's journey continues, and may you walk that path into happiness," added Dubai Culture (@Dubai_culture_and_traditions).

Shaikha Mahra is the daughter of the vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai. She holds one degree in international relations from a university in the UK and another from the Mohammed bin Rashid Government Administration.
