Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Bhubhaneshwar came under fire after a student spotted a dead frog in the hostel food. A post regarding the same was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user named Aaraynsh and the institute was slammed online by the masses. KIIT also took cognizance of the incident and issued a notice.

Aaraynsh took to X to share the post on Saturday. The post featured a picture of the dead frog that was found in the plate of mess food. “This is KIIT Bhubaneswar, ranked ~42 among engineering colleges in India, where parents pay approx Rs 17.5 lakh to get their child an engineering degree. This is the food being served at the college hostel. Then we wonder why students from India migrate to other countries for better education and facilities,” he wrote in the caption.

Aaraynsh also shared an update on the situation and posted the picture of a notice issued by the college. The institute responded by saying that one day’s payment for breakfast, lunch and dinner will be deducted from the remuneration of the mess provider company.

“So, this is the value of human life. The hostel where the frog was served, at Bhubaneswar University, in an attempt to do damage control, decided to deduct only one day's payment from the mess provider company! Just wow,” Aaraynsh wrote.

The post garnered a lot of attention from social media users and they took to the comments section to express their opinions and anger.

“42 is NIRF rank, it's not even worth it. This college charges almost like 22 nowadays and also some extra charges,” a user claimed. A user shared his own experience and wrote, “Once we got Lizard in food in our Hostel Mess. Didn't ate in Mess for whole semester after that.”

“Concerning. Disgusting. Dangerous!” a third user commented.

A fourth user exclaimed, “Kalinga and their mess food. Can't even explain how bad it is. Unhygienic on some other level. One of the most expensive colleges in India. Still fails to provide the basic necessities.”

“Pathetic....the institution, the canteen contractor, the in charge all should be sued and their licenses should be suspended,” another person remarked.
