Rameshwaram Cafe orders internal inquiry to verify facts amid Telangana food safety raids

The Cafe said it requires over 500 kilograms of urad dal weekly, 300 litres of milk daily, and 80 to 100 litres of curd daily.

Hours after the Telangana food safety department said it found expired food items and open dustbins at Rameshwaram Café in the Madhapur area of the state, owners of the South Indian restaurant chain said they’ve launched an internal inquiry to accurately assess the situation.

Over the past few days, Telangana’s food safety department raided several restaurants, including Rameshwaram Cafe and Baahubali Kitchen, across the state and found a number of safety norms being violated. This included the presence of expired urad dal, curd, milk and more.

“The stocks found were sealed and unattended, intended for dispatch and not for consumption. We comply with all laws governing material procurement, sourcing the highest quality products from the best vendors. The law does not prohibit the use of unlabelled products. We uphold the highest hygiene standards…” the Rameshwaram Café said in an official media statement on May 24.

The Cafe said it requires over 500 kilograms of urad dal weekly, 300 litres of milk daily, and 80 to 100 litres of curd daily.

“The law does not prohibit the use of unlabelled products. We uphold the highest hygiene standards…We are already looking into the matter and have ordered an internal inquiry to verify the facts and take stock of each outlet. We continue to extend all cooperation to the authorities in getting to the bottom of the matter,” the statement added.

Rameshwaram Café, which is a famous South Indian restaurant chain famous for its ghee (clarified butter) laden dishes, has recently expanded its quick service restaurant (QSR) network outside Bengaluru. It opened in Madhapur district of Hyderabad in January.
