Working Journalists and other employees working in various newspapers and agencies today held protests against Union government for delay in notifying the recommendations made by justice Majithia wage board.
Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) and Confederation of Newspapers and News Agencies Employees' Organisation spearheaded the protests attended by more than 200 journalists at Azad maidan.
A memorandum was submitted to Goa Governor Dr SS Sidhu, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava and the Labour Commissioner seeking their intervention in early implementation of the Justice G R Majithia wage board.
GUJ president Pandurang Gaonkar said that the protests were part of the nationwide agitations over speedy implementation of the wage board recommendations which he claimed has been purposely delayed by the Centre.
Justice G R Majithia Commission had submitted its report on December 31, 2010 to the Central government.
GUJ General Secretary Vitthaldas Hegde said that there would be hike in basic pay by 2.5 to 3 times once the recommendations were implemented adding, the delay is against the interest of journalists and non-journalists employees working in the newspaper industry.
