Assistant Commissioner of Police Vasant Dhoble, who hit the headlines for his late night crackdown on pubs and restaurants in Mumbai, is back in the news again after a 50-year-old fruit hawker died of a heart attack on Friday evening during a raid conducted by Dhoble. A state Crime Investigation Department (CID) inquiry has been ordered and Dhoble has been transferred out of the area pending the inquiry.
Dhoble was conducting the raid in Mumbai's Santacruz area. The deceased hawker's son claimed that his father was hit by a lathi after which he collapsed, however, the doctors say they have not found any external injuries on the body.
Meanwhile, Dhobhle has claimed he did not step out of his jeep during the raid. A crowd of hawkers gathered outside the hospital where the hawker died and demanded that action be taken against the ACP.
