Bengaluru netizens urge Trump to mediate with BBMP, escalate long-pending Ejipura flyover works

The Eijipura flyover project had started in 2017, but the work slowed down in 2019 when the then-contractor went bankrupt. The cost of the flyover is estimated to be Rs 204 crore, and the construction was supposed to be completed by 2019. The new deadline is December 2025.

In a surprise move on Saturday evening, US President Donald Trump announced a 'ceasefire' between India and Pakistan on a day of intense aerial warfare, marked by drone and missile strikes and counter-strikes.

US President Donald Trump has been the fodder for meme makers after he announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan on Saturday. From being addressed as "Sardar Donald Singh Trump" to being given the title of "sarpanch", the internet made light of the situation until netizens in Bengaluru decided to grab the opportunity and request Trump to use his powers of mediation to solve a long-standing problem the citizens have been facing -- the completion of the Ejipura flyover.

The project had started in 2017, but the progress slowed down in 2019 when the then-contractor went bankrupt. The cost of the flyover is estimated to be 204 crore, and the construction was supposed to be completed by 2019, but it faced further delays owing to problems in land acquisition. In January, the authorities revised their deadline to December 2025.

Karnataka Weather (@BengaluruRains_), an account on X that mostly shared weather updates, urged the US president to mediate with the civic authorities to finally complete the project.

"Hello Donald Trump, could you please mediate with BBMP to ESCALATE Ejipura flyover works in Bengaluru? We'll name it as MAGA Trump flyover," the post read, also requesting him to step in and have a word with BMRCL to quicken the pace of yellow line metro rail work in the city.

"Stopping India-Pakistan war is not such a big deal. If he wants to prove that he's a strong negotiator and global leader, let him do this and prove his worth to the world," Karnataka Weather added.

The viral post garnered a lot of laughs on X.

"Let us ask Pakistan military to take over Ejipura flyover from BBMP and complete it. Even after that hostility BBMP does not get up from their deep slumber, we may become eligible to ask Trump to negotiate on behalf of us with BBMP," commented Santosh Naik (@Santoshn2Naik). "Ejipura flyover is a monument, and even if Trump-Vance tries to do something, our ASI will not let anyone destroy this historical monument," wrote Akshay (@akshayji10).

Another X user (@In_Space_Tardis) said, "If you can negotiate with BBMP, you are truly a global leader." "He was told to reconnect after the full implementation of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act (GBGA)," added a fourth user Prabhanjan Badami (@PABadami).

Ironically, hours after Trump made the announcement while highlighting US' role in mediating the ceasefire, Pakistan violated it. The ceasefire was confirmed by New Delhi and Islamabad, but within hours, Pakistan started shelling areas along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistani drones were brought down in Srinagar and as far as Kutch in Gujarat.
