Who is Commodore Nair? Indian Navy’s voice in India-Pakistan ceasefire briefing

In a pointed address on Saturday, Nair dismissed Islamabad’s claims regarding ceasefire violations, asserting India’s commitment to the agreement while warning that any further provocation would be met with a "decisive response."

As a Captain, Nair was part of India’s contingent at the 2023 Bastille Day Parade in France, where PM Modi was the chief guest.

Commodore Raghu R Nair, a senior Indian Navy officer, delivered a sharp message to Pakistan during Saturday’s tri-services media briefing, following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between New Delhi and Islamabad.

Flanked by Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh,  who had briefed earlier, his presence completed the tri-services representation that coordinated closely on Operation Sindoor.

Here's a closer look at Commodore Nair’s exemplary service record.

A one-star officer with over two decades in service, Commodore Nair’s rank is equivalent to a Brigadier in the Army and an Air Commodore in the Air Force. He was awarded the prestigious Nao Sena Medal by President Droupadi Murmu on Republic Day this year for his “devotion to duty.”

Operationally, Nair played a critical leadership role in Operation Brahma, India’s humanitarian mission launched in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand in March. He was responsible for coordinating naval assets and leading relief operations in the affected regions.

Nair’s credentials also extend to the diplomatic arena. As a Captain, he was part of India’s contingent at the 2023 Bastille Day Parade in France, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief guest.

In a pointed address on Saturday, Nair dismissed Islamabad’s claims regarding ceasefire violations, asserting India’s commitment to the agreement while warning that any further provocation would be met with a "decisive response."

His statement came after a fortnight of cross-border shelling that hit both civilian and military infrastructure.

“The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force remain fully operationally ready, ever vigilant, and committed to defending the sovereignty and integrity of the motherland,” Nair said.
