Two passengers aboard an Air India Copenhagen-Delhi on Sunday fought over armrest space and rained blows on each other just before landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport, prompting the cabin crew to intervene, the Times of India reported.

The argument had begun over armrest space in economy class while the cabin crew was serving meals and it escalated into a heated exchange. One of the flyers had to be accommodated in a different seat but right before landing, the passenger returned to the original seat to get his baggage and they broke into a fight.

An Air India official told the publication that the passengers had an argument and that it was resolved "amicably".

"The two passengers started an argument over the armrest space in economy class when the cabin crew was serving food and beverages, which turned into a heated exchange. The cabin crew pacified them by giving one of the passengers another seat," the source said. "However, when the aircraft was about to land in Delhi, the passenger came to collect his baggage from the seat he was sitting earlier, they again started the fight and came to blows."

Meanwhile, the airline's subsidiary, Air India Express also made headlines over the weekend after having recorded the highest-ever liquor sale on its maiden Surat-Bangkok flight on December 20, thanks to 175 "enthusiastic" flyers. The cabin crew even had to refuse requests for more alcohol from some passengers from the dry state of Gujarat fearing unruly behaviour.

Air India Express sources said that the high demand was partly because the airline had kept the onboard liquor prices "very affordable" compared to other low-cost airlines.
