10 Bengali artisans worked in unison to make a Durga idol, sparkled with 1.25 lakh American diamonds in three months in Churu district of Rajasthan, a News18 report said.
Pandit Balmukund Vyas, who decorated the grand court of Durga in Churu's Satsang Bhavan, said that the statue of the "Ashtabhuja Maa Durga" riding on a lion was nine-and-a-half feet long and four-and-a-half feet wide and several devotees has visited the pandal to take blessings of the goddess.
Vyas added that he had been to the United States to perform puja and handpicked the diamonds that were used in making the idol. He also revealed that the diamonds were worth Rs 50,000 and plaster of Paris and clay were used to make the idol.
"Firstly, last year I got a 13.5 feet long idol made from Sikar, Rajasthan. By the blessings of goddess Durga, I got a chance to visit Chicago, United States for puja and I got inspired to do something different on the occasion of Navaratri in 2023 and so I purchased some nine-coloured American diamonds and then requested the artisans to make the idol. 10 Bengali artisans worked together to build this beautiful statue," Vyas told News18.
The statue was made by the artisans in Sikar, Rajasthan in three months and the diamonds were put on top of the statue, along with the dress. Vyas also said that he had done golden polishing on the idol.
