The Humane AI Pin is a projector you can wear on your clothes. It acts like a smartphone by showing you calls, apps, and voice commands on your hands or surfaces.
Humane AI Pin was built from the ground up with Artificial Intelligence by Imran Chaudhri, a former Apple design director, and his team. The pin, about the size of a finger, has cameras that can scan and see what's around it, secret sensors that can turn it on and off, and speakers that are built right in.
What can it do?
It can send texts and take pictures. A laser projects a screen onto the palm with a virtual helper that can be as smart as ChatGPT. It's meant to stop people from being too dependent on computers by always being ready to search the web and talk on the phone.
Technical specification
The AI Pin has a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip and a Qualcomm AI Engine. The pin talks to the person who wears it through a "personal speaker" or paired Bluetooth headphones. It has a microphone and a lot of instruments as well.
AI Pin can work independently and doesn't need to be paired with a phone or another technology. The device only turns on when the user presses a button. It doesn't use "wake words," so it's not always listening or recording. A "trust light" lets you know when any sensors are on.
Will it replace smartphones?
Humane promotes AI Pin as an anti-smartphone device where users can interact with their surroundings rather than stare at a screen. However, occasionally, you require visuals. To make amends, AI Pin incorporates a "laser ink display" capable of projecting images onto the user's palm. Like the double-tap function on the Apple Watch, you can pause or play audio by tapping your index finger and thumb together. Additional hand gestures consist of a downward, forward, or backward inclination, each performing a distinct action.
AI voice commands
Since there is no screen, AI Pin mostly talks to people through sound. Humane uses OpenAI's model to find and do tasks through voice commands. The company calls this system "Ai Mic." There's already a version of this in ChatGPT, so you could use that as your primary way to handle the device. However, when you use AI Pin, all your apps and accounts are connected to the device. You can use Ai Mic to look for a reservation code in your inbox or dictate notes to people in your contact list.
How does it vary from existing voice assistants?
In contrast to voice assistants such as Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant, AI Pin does not operate in the background, preventing it from engaging in passive eavesdropping on conversations. It only becomes operational when manually activated by the device proprietor. Ai Pin is equipped with a "prominent Trust Light" that illuminates during operation as an anti-surveillance measure.
The device uses a "personal speaker" to create a "bubble of sound." to keep your chats with AI Pin private.
What AI feature does it have?
A "Catch Me Up" feature can summarize newly received messages and organise them in your inbox. The device also includes AI-driven messaging capabilities that can generate messages based on your tone of voice.
Ai Pin can support nutrition objectives and serve as an interpreter for foreign languages by identifying foods using computer vision. Humane stated that additional functionalities will be incorporated as the device and platform continue to develop with subsequent updates.
It will also provide an AI-powered music experience via a collaboration with Tidal, a division of Block (SQ). The Humane AI Pin is equipped with an "eternal power system." A full day's battery life can be obtained by replacing the battery cell.
What it can do
A woman employs AI Pin's computer vision in the promotional video to determine whether a Dragon Fruit contains enough sugar to meet her dietary requirements.
It is also rumoured that the AI Pin can determine the protein content of a fistful of almonds placed in one's palm; however, this claim may only partially be accurate. Humane initially proposes this feature as a nutritional tool but asserts that it will eventually be applied to additional purposes.
Another feature that AI Pin boasts is its capability of real-time translation. The device can translate the spoken language back to the user or vice-versa in response to a few straightforward commands.
The future
Humane sees the AI Pin as the start of something bigger. Humane may hope its product develops similarly to smartphones, but the true innovation is in the things that can be done with the gadget. Although more must be done, Humane seems prepared to get going.
