Popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has announced that it will extend the face recognition feature to their popular OnePlus 5 model. The new revelation was made by company’s co-founder Carl Pei on Twitter.
In a tweet that was posted on his personal Twitter account on December 24, Pei stated that the decision to add the Face Unlock feature on OnePlus 5 due to the popular demand by customers. “Due to popular demand, Face Unlock is coming for the OnePlus 5. Thanks for the feedback, and merry Christmas!,” stated the tweet.
The decision comes after many users were left unimpressed when the company launched a new model i.e. OnePlus 5T with brand new features just a few months after the launch of OnePlus 5. Many felt that it was unreasonable that the OnePlus 5 did not come with the unique ‘Face Unlock’ feature like its successor. The new decision is certain to alleviate these complaints.

The Face Unlock is a face recognition feature that allows users to unlock the smartphone using the face recognition technology. Made popular by tech giant Apple lately after it was introduced in the latest iPhone launches, the OnePlus 5T is one of the few models that have a comparable face unlock feature.

Coming in two variants i.e. 6 GB RAM and 8 GB RAM, the device comes with dual rear cameras of 20MP and 16MP along with 16 MP front camera. The device will feature a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display and is powered by a 3000 mAh battery.
Powered by 1.9GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, the basic version of the model is priced at approximately Rs 33,000 while the 8 GB model costs Rs 37,999.
