Walmart-owned e-commerce platform Flipkart has asked all executives, who are designated as senior directors and above, to work from office five days a week, people familiar with the development told Moneycontrol.
The sources cited above said the company is also mulling on extending this to Directors but hasn’t made a decision yet. Out of Flipkart’s over 21,000 employees 500-700 belong to the four senior cohorts: director, senior director, vice-president (VP) and senior-vice president (SVP). Of the four, senior directors, vice-presidents and senior-vice presidents have now been asked to come to the office five days a week.
Flipkart’s move to call employees back to office is part of a larger trend, as companies devise ways to bring back the workforce post pandemic. Large IT companies such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, HCLTech and others are all asking employees to return to the office.
This week, Moneycontrol reported that even Infosys is encouraging employees to begin working from its Hubballi campus.
Under the current arrangement, most of Flipkart's employees work from the office for three days and from home for two days each week.
Flipkart has no plans to extend the mandate to all employees, Moneycontrol has learnt.
The company did not reply to Moneycontrol’s request for comments.
Flipkart is also witnessing a churn at the top levels as several top executives departed the firm in the past few months. Five SVPs – Sandeep Kohli, Amitesh Jha, Bharath Ram, Ayyappan R. Dheeraj Aneja – have all left the Walmart-owned e-tailer, Moneycontrol reported last month. Most of the departing executives are starting up on their own.
Flipkart’s chief human resources officer (CHRO) Krishna Raghavan also quit in October last year.
The developments come at a time when Flipkart is improving its financial health and is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) next year, as reported by Moneycontrol earlier.
