100mn NFC-enabled smartphones to be sold in 2012, predicts report

Slowly but surely, near field communications is emerging as a common mode of connectivity for smartphones. With an increasing number of mobile payment solutions integrated with NFC, the need for NFC enabled smartphones is only going to increase. Now, according to news sources, close to 100 million NFC chip-enabled smartphones would have sold by the end of 2012. Research firm, Berg Insight mentioned that manufacturers had launched close to 40 high-end NFC-enabled handsets in 2011, with the view that mobile payment solutions would start picking up.
