On December 31, 2024, a South Korean court approved an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was impeached and suspended from power over his decision to impose martial law on December 3. This marks the first time in South Korean history that an arrest warrant has been issued for an incumbent president. Yoon is under investigation for possible insurrection charges, as his martial law decree briefly saw military troops clash with parliament staff.
