On a question about whether the commerce ministry is planning to close these units, he said: "We are examining all options and will do what is in the national interest".
It was also agreed upon that the ministry will prepare a comprehensive note for the Cabinet for closure of both State Trading Corporation (STC), and Project and Equipment Corporation of India (PEC) within a definite time frame, given their precarious financial position
The state-run company said that it has appointed financial advisor for the restructuring of existing loans and raising additional loans.
The ministry had also suggested that the government bear the expenses for VRS (voluntary retirement scheme) to be offered to about 600-700 employees of STC.
"That is something which is already on cards because STC unfortunately has become a sick company. Therefore, there are some measures which are being taken already and this matter is under process," Prabhu told PTI.
