Yadav died on Thursday at a private hospital in Gurugram at the age of 75.
Former union minister Sharad Yadav's mortal remains will be taken to his native village Ankhmau in Hoshangabad district in Madhya Pradesh by a chartered plane on Saturday morning. The cremation will be performed at 1 pm on Saturday.
"Pained by the passing away of Shri Sharad Yadav Ji. In his long years in public life, he distinguished himself as MP and Minister. He was greatly inspired by Dr. Lohia's ideals," Modi tweeted.
Lalu Prasad, who has engaged in electoral battles with Sharaad Yadav in the Madhepura Lok Sabha seat, issued a video statement from his hospital bed in Singapore where he is recuperating from a kidney transplant surgery.
Sharad Yadav breathed his last on Thursday at a private hospital in Gurugram where he was rushed after he collapsed at his Chhatarpur residence in Delhi.
Sharad Yadav was brought in an "unconscious and unresponsive state" at Gurugram's Fortis Memorial Research Institute. "Despite best efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 10:19 PM," the hospital said.

The list of candidates released on Thursday pertains to the second and third phase of polls to be held on November 3 and 7.
The apex court in 2018 had decided to examine the plea by Singh which sought to place on record documents related to claim of formation of new party by Yadav.
"I, for my part, have been involved in national politics all through my life. And I am not going to change course at this stage," Sharad Yadav said.
Yadav, who is contesting the election on RJD ticket from Madhepura in Bihar, said in a statement that in his long political career he has never seen such an atmosphere as he had seen in 2014 and now.
Kushwaha, also a Union minister, met Yadav at the latter's residence and both the leaders were believed to discussed the current political situation, especially in Bihar, RLSP sources said.
Speaking to reporters, Yadav stopped short of demanding a reintroduction of the ballot paper system.

Speaking to PTI-Bhasha, Yadav said efforts by a few political parties to provide an alternative to the BJP and the Congress would not affect the unity among the other opposition parties to put up a formidable front against the saffron party.
The announcement was made by LJD national secretary Sushila Morale at a press conference where Yadav was also present, but he insisted that he was not yet a member of the new party as his legal claim to represent the JD(U) was still sub-judice.
