The Supreme Court Wednesday refused to grant interim bail on medical grounds to former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar who is serving life imprisonment in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
It noted the submission of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that Kumar was due for a medical examination at AIIMS according to the earlier report of AIIMS dated, December 10, 2019.
A bench comprising Chief Justice S A Bobde, Justice B R Gavai and Justice Surya Kant also said it will consider medical report from the AIIMS on the health condition of Kumar after completing the hearing in the Sabarimala reference matter.
Kumar has also challenged the Delhi High Court's judgment convicting and awarding him life imprisonment in the case probed by CBI.
The CBI told a bench of Justices S A Bobde and S A Nazeer that offence for which Kumar was convicted was of "gruesome nature" as it was a "genocide".

The probe agency in its reply on Sajjan Kumar's plea seeking bail said he has a "large political clout" and is capable of "influencing or terrorising" witnesses in the case pending against him.
The 73-year-old Kumar had surrendered before a trial court here on December 31, 2018 to serve the sentence in pursuance of the high court's December 17 judgment awarding him life imprisonment for the "remainder of his natural life".
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi admitted the appeal of Sajjan Kumar for hearing and also issued notice to the CBI on his bail plea and sought its response within four weeks.

The counsel said Kumar's appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the high court verdict is not likely to be taken up for hearing before December 31.
