Design, texture, size, thickness and supply or availability of the new Rs 200 notes will decide the required recalibration at ATMs as it can be a massive exercise which was already done recently post demonetisation across about 2 lakh ATMs.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will issue bright yellow-coloured Rs 200 denomination banknotes on August 25, the central bank today said.
The RBI took up the issue of introducing Rs 200 bank notes at a meeting last month as it sought shore up the availability of lower denomination bank notes after ATM operators reported a shortage.
Before November last year, the central bank had largely refrained from tinkering with the existing currency for nearly two decades. Since then, there have been a slew of changes.
