According to the information provided by the Enforcement Directorate, there are 41 people involved in financial irregularities who fled the country or are living abroad, including Mallya, Modi and Choksi, he said.
"The Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against Mehul Choksi on the request of CBI," CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said.
The notice, which acts as an international arrest warrant, mentions that Bhansali (40) is required on charges of "money laundering".
The records the CBI provided to the Interpol included the non-bailable warrants issued by a Mumbai special court and the details of the charge sheets filed in the case etc. The documents were found in order and have satisfied the Lyon-based international police cooperation agency which is "processing" the CBI's request, they said.
The ED has a stronger case against Mallya to issue the Red Corner notice, said sources, adding, Interpol is expected to reach a decision on the case by September.
While the proclaimed offender tag does strengthen the Enforcement Directorate‘s case to get Mallya extradited from the UK, Interpol cannot issue a Red Corner Notice purely based on the tag.
The Interpol has completed an initial review of India's application seeking a red-corner notice (RCN) against beleaguered tycoon Vijay Mallya and has decided there is no case to issue a notice rightaway.
After the UK government declined India‘s request to deport the liquor baron, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had written to the CBI to issue a RCN against him, which got approved later today.
Meanwhile, revenue officials in Goa have allowed the lenders to Kingfisher Airlines to take physical possession of 'Kingfisher Villa' in Candolim. The Villa, valued at Rs 90 crore, used to be Mallya's base in Goa and also the venue of many of the famous parties hosted by him during the `good times'.
Sources told CNN-IBN that Modi was tracked to the United Kingdom and that Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated diplomatic efforts to bring him back to India.
