Questioning officials, Gadkari asked how the NHAI took almost a decade to complete a single building when the Rs 1 lakh crore Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is planned to be executed in two years.

Gadkari, who also holds the MSME portfolio, exhorted the components sector to improve production, technology and quality and take advantage of India’s cost competitive labour to be a force in the global arena and contribute even more to the country’s GDP.

"Detailed project report for the expressway will be finalised soon and Bhoomi Pujan will be done as early as possible," Gadkari said.
Apart from a number of strategic tunnels and bridges being built across the length and breadth of the country, 22 green expressways at an estimated cost of Rs 3.10 lakh crore comprising 7,500 km are planned to be executed in the next couple of years, the road transport minister said.
