On April 4th, the political landscape in India witnessed significant upheavals. Renowned Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh's surprising move to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections sent shockwaves. Meanwhile, in West Bengal's Cooch Behar, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched scathing attacks on the BJP during consecutive rallies, sparking intense political debates. Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Bihar's Jamui, where he referred to Chirag Paswan as his 'little brother', added another layer to the day's political drama. Meanwhile, Bihar faced its own crisis as 22 key leaders from Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party resigned, dealing a significant blow to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Gourav Vallabh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party hours after resigning from all posts and membership of the Congress party on Thursday. Citing reasons for his exit, he said that he can “neither raise anti-Sanatan slogans nor abuse wealth creators" everyday.
In his resignation letter to Kharge, Vallabh called the grand old party "directionless" and voiced a long list of issues he had with Congress.
The Congress party is facing several challenges ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Senior Congress leader and spokesperson Gourav Vallabh's resignation from all party posts adds to the series of setbacks.
Mallikarjun Kharge said he entered the polls after senior and young leaders alike urged him to enter the fray.
Gourav Vallabh said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) annual report for 2020-21 points out certain alarming statistics and alleged that the failure of the Modi government in controlling infections due to the second wave of COVID-19 is denting a heavy blow again to the economy.
Though he was little known among the party’s top brass, his recent showdown with BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra caught the attention of party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
