The helicopter services in six routes connecting four major cities of Assam will be launched by central PSU Pawan Hans Ltd on February 8.
The chopper was attempting to land at the rig, located some 50 nautical miles from the Mumbai coast, when the incident took place. About 1.5 km from the landing zone on the rig, the chopper fell into the sea, the official said.
Terming India as an "interesting market" for it, the company hoped that "an agreed and transparent solution" was found as soon as possible, in order to shed light on current initiatives and future business opportunities.
Widening its probe in the Rs 3,600 crore VVIP chopper deal, the ED has begun a trail of "cash" which is suspected to have been paid as alleged kickbacks for the purchase of 12 helicopters from UK-based AgustaWestland.
"We are a democracy. We have a huge system. There is nothing wrong in ordering an inquiry. But I also believe that the people responsible should come out and say that they took the decisions. In that sense, I was let down. The Indian Air Force was let down," SP Tyagi said.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) on Friday. It has now been decided that the Indian industry would be given an opportunity for the same.
British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Tuesday the UK is willing to cooperate with any Indian enquiry on tainted AgustaWestland chopper deal. Cameron made the statement during a press conference, which was held after the meeting between Cameron and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
