Russian prosecutors have decided against taking forward their case seeking a ban on a translated version of Bhagvad Gita, bringing down the curtains on the sensitive issue that had enraged Hindus globally and even threatened to strain Russia's ties with India.
A Russian court is hearing final arguments today to decide whether to ban a translation of Bhagvad Gita on account that it is "extremist literature" and promotes "social discord", a case that has sparked concern in India.
India on Tuesday described a complaint about the Bhagvad Gita in Russia as patently absurd. The government also promised Parliament that it was taking the controversy seriously and was closely monitoring the case.
