Days after Volkswagen recalled 3.32 lakh vehicles, CNBC-TV18 has learned that the Road Ministry may consider banning sales of VW diesel cars in India till a new engine is introduced. Further, the ministry will order a fresh probe into Volkswagen to decide whether its cars were fitted with a cheating device.
ARAI found that Volkswagen violated emission norms in India to the extent of 8-9 times of the current levels, he said, adding that his ministry is referring the matter to Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to take action against the company.
