India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Delhi and it adjoining areas on Sunday after the national capital witnessed moderate showers. The alert warns of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in the coming hours.
Rainfall was recorded across several areas including Preet Vihar, ITO, Rajeev Chowk, Jafarpur, India Gate, Akshardham, Safdarjung and Lodi Road, while Nehru Stadium, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji, Ayanagar and Deramandi also reported showers. Traffic snarls were seen at key junctions such as ITO, Lajpat Nagar and Connaught Place.
Delhi recorded 36 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am. The minimum temperature dipped to 23.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees below the season’s average, while the maximum is expected around 31 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels remained high at 97 per cent.
Meanwhile, the city’s air quality stayed in the “satisfactory” category, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recording an AQI of 63 at 4 pm.
