The body of a 22-year-old woman was found stuffed in a suitcase in Haryana's Rohtak with the Congress party stating that the deceased is a party worker and demanded a "high-level probe into the murder".

The Congress demanded a probe into the death of Himani Narwal (22), who was associated with party MP Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The body was found in a big blue suitcase near the Sampla bus stand on Friday, following which the information regarding this was provided to the Sampla police station, ANI reported.

The suitcase was spotted by passers-by and they informed the police. On receiving information about the incident, the police and a forensic team reached the spot and found Narwal's body inside the suitcase.

Police said the victim's neck was wrapped with a scarf and had mehendi on her hands.

Narwal had posted many photos of herself with former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's son and Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda, and party MLA BB Batra on social media.

A row erupted after Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra alleged that the deceased was a Congress worker, who had accompanied Rahul Gandhi during Bharat Jodo Yatra. Batra added that Narwal was pretty active with Bhupinder Hooda and Deepinder Hooda during the election campaign.

Congress Haryana chief Hooda strongly condemned the incident, calling it a "blot on the law and order situation of the state". He also demanded a "high-level" and "impartial" probe into the incident.

"The news of the barbaric murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal in Rohtak is extremely sad and shocking. I pay my tribute to the departed soul and express my deepest condolences to the family members. This in itself is a blot on the law and order situation of the state," he posted on X in Hindi.

"There should be a high-level impartial investigation of this murder and the government should provide justice to the victim's family as soon as possible and provide the harshest punishment to the culprits," Hooda said.
