Swing collapses in Surajkund crafts mela in Faridabad, police personnel dead; several injured

Several people were injured after a swing collapsed at the Surajkund mela

A swing at the Surjkund Crafts mela in Faridabad collapsed on Saturday. One police personnel died in the incident while several people suffered injuries.

DCP Maqsood Ahmed said, “An accident occurred after a swing collapsed at the mela. We are currently assessing the situation. Some people were injured and have been shifted to hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Two police personnel were also injured and are receiving treatment. A proper investigation will be conducted, and action will be taken against the swing operator. The exact number of injured is being ascertained.”

The accident happened when a swing at the fair malfunctioned and broke, causing injuries to several visitors. Jagdish Prasad, a police inspector who rushed to assist in rescuing the injured, sustained critical injuries during the operation and later succumbed to them, officials confirmed.

Senior district authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner, the Managing Director of Tourism, and top police officers, arrived at the site shortly after the incident. The area was promptly barricaded to prevent any further accidents.
