Barkat Khan, a 68-year-old resident of Pachpadra in Rajasthan, has been arrested for the fiftieth time, this time in connection with a robbery at a local temple. Also known as Babu, Khan has a long history of criminal activity, with his first case registered in 1984. He is now set to return to jail.

Temple robbery brings serial thief to the fore

The Ashapura Mataji Temple in Sointra, near Shergarh, was targeted twice in the past month. During the latest incident, the thief stole Rs 25,000 in cash, a microphone set, an LED TV, and a silver canopy from the temple’s safe. The repeated robberies had left villagers on edge, with many spending sleepless nights trying to identify the culprit.

During a night patrol, police apprehended Barkat Khan while he was seen roaming near the temple premises. Some of the stolen items have already been recovered, and authorities hope the arrest will help them trace his accomplices.

Police have also intensified night patrols and are keeping a close watch on suspicious individuals in the area.

According to the Station House Officer, the accused, Babu, is a habitual offender. He has spent over 10 years in jail and had recently escaped from Ajmer jail.
