Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, who was seen as the frontrunner in the Delhi Chief Minister race, will take oath as Cabinet minister at Ramlila Maidan today. Along with him, five other prominent leaders such as Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Pankaj Kumar Singh will be part of the Rekha Gupta’s new Council.

However, it should be noted that there has been no announcement of portfolio allocation so far. Names of the ministers-elect were published in an official circular today. There are also reports that BJP’s Vijendar Gupta is likely to be appointed as Speaker of the Delhi Assembly.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Oath Ceremony Live

A first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, Rekha Gupta is BJP’s second woman Delhi CM. She succeeds late Sushma Swaraj, who was last BJP CM to hold this post back in 1998. Parvesh Verma, who will be part of Gupta’s Council of Ministers, was seen a top contender for the CM post. Son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, Parvesh had defeated Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi Assembly seat.

While there were many contenders, BJP named the Shalimar Bagh MLA as the ninth Chief Minister of Delhi underscoring the 'naari shakti' stance. After the swearing-in ceremony, there are reports that Gupta along with her council of ministers will visit Yamuna. Cleaning of the river is one of the major poll promises by the BJP.
