The Election Commission (EC) has released hard copies of the post-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral rolls in various districts of West Bengal, officials said.

However, the updated voter lists are yet to be made available online.

The printed copies have been circulated at designated locations across districts for public access and verification. Officials said the digital version of the revised rolls will be uploaded in due course.

The facility strengthens India’s integration into the global semiconductor value chain at a time when countries are seeking to diversify chip supply chains, according to officials.

India currently imports a majority of its semiconductor requirements. While the Sanand unit does not undertake front-end wafer fabrication, industry experts view it as a foundational step in building infrastructure, workforce capability and supplier ecosystems that could support more advanced chip manufacturing in the future.

The project is also expected to generate significant employment. The workforce is projected to expand as the facility scales up production, alongside indirect job creation across logistics, materials and ancillary services.

These components are essential for a wide range of applications, including smartphones, laptops, data centres and high-performance computing systems, with demand accelerating due to rapid advancements in artificial intelligence.

Once fully ramped up, the plant is expected to house around 500,000 square feet of cleanroom space, positioning it among the largest raised-floor cleanrooms globally dedicated to semiconductor assembly and testing.

The unit focuses on ATMP — Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging — a critical back-end stage of semiconductor manufacturing. Instead of fabricating silicon wafers, the Sanand facility will process advanced DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) and NAND flash wafers from Micron’s global manufacturing network into finished memory and storage products.
