A three-year-old girl was raped and killed by her neighbour in Gurugram after taking the playing toddler some 4 kilometres away from her home. The accused then dug a shallow pit in an empty plot to bury the toddler's body.
The 24-year-old man, who hails from Bihar's Supaul district and works at a manufacturing firm, has been arrested. According to investigators, the accused - who lives in the same building where the victim resided with her parents - often played with the toddler.
The girl's body was recovered around 2am from the pit near the industrial area of Gurugram's Sector 37.
It was around 7pm on Thursday that the accused took the girl, who was playing in the neighbourhood, some least 4kms away and raped her. "Afterwards, he throttled her, dug a shallow pit, and fled after burying the body," Gurugram Police public relations officer (PRO) Sandeep Turan told Hindustan Times.
The victim's parents filed a missing report around 12.15am. The accused was caught on CCTV cameras taking away the girl. He was soon arrested and even confessed to murdering the girl after raping her.
"The suspect took the police team to the spot and helped them recover the body, after which forensic experts were called to collect evidence," Turan added.
The accused has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections, including 103(1) (murder) and section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
